Putting the finishing touches on the trip (5 days out). Thanks for all of the tips, really awesome knowledge on this site!

So, if a guy were to get powdered drink mixes, such as Crystal Light, what would you all suggest. There may be a pint of everclear involved for medicinal usage only. With a 51 year old sports destroyed anatomy, truly may be the case. Not as worried about the mixing however, just for a pleasant water addition.

Best products, favors, I am all ears. I really don't use a lot of powdered drinks, so what's the verdict?

Tang all the way!!

I've also used some lemonade packets. The real sugar kind.

I use crystal lite just because it packs smaller and lighter than real sugar mixes. for taste I sure prefer the later. btw, im an everclear guy too. flavor? lemonade.

many on here have switched to MiO.

I use MIO or something similar. It's probably not the best but you can't beat the packability (if that's a word). Anyway, you know what I'm sayin'

Crystal Lite powder all the way till the liquid concentrated mixes came out., Mio, KoolAid, Hawaiian Punch, Crystal Lite, lipton, many and more.

Just discovered True Lemon powdered drink mix which I found at CUB Foods. I had been using all those drink mixes that others have mentioned for many years. Great for most people. I started looking for alternatives when I discovered that the synthetic sugars like aspartame in many of those powdered drinks were giving me migraine headaches. As it turns out many people get aspartame triggered headaches but it took me 20 years to figure out what was causing mine. The True Lemon original lemonade tastes great. I haven't tried the raspberry flavored lemonade yet. 100% natural as it uses Stevia Extract for sweetener. You might give it a try.

I use the True Lemon also, as a matter of fact have a few in my desk drawer at work now...but it isn't a drink mix like the others are.
It is just "COLD PRESSED & CRYSTALLIZED LEMON 1 PACKET = 1 WEDGE"
It does make plain water easier to drink. It does about as much as adding a lemon to it like you would at a restaurant.

Crystal lite with caffeine, helps me not get headaches.

We do full on kool aid. Buy the big containers then repackage it down to individual nalgene sized servings.

There is something to be said for Arnie Palmer Half & Half (iced tea and lemonade) mixed with vodka. They make it in little packets just right for a Nalgene bottle :)

05/26/2015 03:31PM
I like to go with Grape Gatorade Mix. It comes in the little packets and taste really good. If you like Grape vodka/everclear.

I prefer the Propel powdered mixes, each packet is for 16.9 oz but I mix it to about 24 oz of water. I find the Propel ones have less after taste than many of the other mixes. I also do not like a really strong flavor or sugary drink. The Propel packets fit that bill for me.
...but then again many times I'll just drink straight water.

Tang or Crytal light orange is a NECESSITY at breakfast! Since I won't lug fresh OJ out there, I need some sort of orangey morning drink.

After that I like crystal lite peach tea and pomegranate lemonade. I particularly like them because they make 2 qts in the little sleeves. Perfect since my gf and I both carry a 1 qt bottle for hydration. Raspberry tea is also great as I am sure other flavors are.

I'm a big MIO fan. It's not powdered, but liquid in a little squeeze bottle. That makes it "adjustable" for individuals and comes in lots of flavors.

05/26/2015 06:26PM
MIO fan here as well but there must be quite a few gatorade fans out there cuz I was picking up the little packages off the portages from Oyster - EP16 on Sunday.

So that rules out little Gatorade packages, don't want to be associated-:).

Might need to try a few of these suggestions, haven't had MIO before.

True Lemon DOES in fact make a drink mix. It is different than the crystallized lemon that you refer to. They have a True Lemon Lemonade and also and True Lemon Raspberry Lemonade. It is sweetened with Stevia Extract. Check it out True Lemon Drink Mix

I combine both of the above...

I do one packet of the True Lemon raspberry lemonade with 2 packets of the plain lemon packets or one packet of blackberry limeade with 2 plain lime packets in a 32oz water bottle. I like the plain lemon to cut some of the sweetness and I don't like it too strong.

We usually bring the individual pouches of koolaid mix. They are small and cheap. Toward the end of a long day of travel the sugar from a bottle of mixed up kool-aid seems to really give me a boost.

05/27/2015 02:16PM
I have done both Kool Aid and Crystal Light on trips. I had to "google" MIO at which point I discovered I have it in the fridge. Darned memory.

Thanks for pointing that out...I was unaware and I like the lemon wedge enough to give their drink mix a try.

Mott's (the juice compamy) has an apple flavor mix that I love, even around home. It's more similar to fresh apple cider than apple juice and is possibly better as a hot drink. Add "a little something extra" to it hot and you've got a great way to warm up on a chilly morning or rainy evening.

I'm a red gatorade guy, but I don't use the packets. They're expensive and they tell you how much you can use, BOO! I buy a big can of the powder (the really big can, I find it at walmart or online) and then separate it into tupperware screw top containers. I can add as much or as little as I want per bottle and it stays mess free along with no wrappers that fall out of pockets and get left on the trail or at a campsite. It also mixes well with rum or vodka if you're so inclined.

We use mostly crystal lite, Arizona, Tang & Walmart/Target brands. Iced tea flavors in peach, lemon and the Artie Palmer (half lemonade/half iced tea). I mix crystal lite (or Walmart brand) orange sunrise flavor with fruit punch flavor together to make a mix for drinks. Sometimes I add some dried fruit in that "drink beverage". Drink & snack. Walmart brand has a really nice grape...good for your Graves, Everclear or vodka. Brings back those memories of a nice purple passion. Tang is good all on its own or mixed with punch, hot or cold and has regular sugar. As others have mentioned, real sugar is sometimes a boost and a welcomed addition after drinking so many types of alternatives. Motts cider in the individual packets in various flavors, good hot in the evening.

I tried the mios in a few flavors, initially I liked them...but the slippery/odd flavor I kept tasting is vegetable oil they add and it subsequently fell to the wayside. Mango Tang? I have never seen that before...hmm.

We brought this on our recent trip and were greatly disappointed. The stevia tastes awful and tastes nothing like lemonade. I'd deal with the short term usage of aspartame or similar additives for the sake of taste before taking True Lemon Lemonade along again.

I wanted to edit this post...the odd taste in the Mio comes from Propylene glycol, not vegetable oil as I previously mentioned. I did see the orange mango tang online, looks interesting.

I like powdered Gatorade - I brought orange and lemon-lime flavor with me this year - primarily to mix with EverClear. By itself, I prefer the Orange. Mixed with EverClear they are both equally bad, but like most things mixed with EverClear, get better as you go along.
