Just wondering who is getting out there this summer? Pic's, please?

In April, I did some hiking in the north Georgia hills (pic below) but won't get out again until I do a Quetico solo in September.

Visiting family in Colorado this week with plans to hang on the Grand Mesa Tuesday night. Pictures will follow when I return.

Got out once at the beginning of May - will be out at the end of this month again. I will not be in the BWCA; doing 30 miles on the Superior Hiking Trail.

Here is a pic or our setup. Two hammocks, a dog pop up kennel, and tarp and tent for three of us and my lab. Worked great. I know, lots of stuff but that's how I roll.

No photo of the outside just this one from the inside. Knife Lake 5/18...snowing outside but toasty inside.

outdooraddict, sent you an email with questions about the campsites on gull and whether any of them were burned by pagami that you couldn't use a hammock. leaving Monday, looking to basecamp on gull with a hammock. any info you can provide would be appreciated.

I had a pleasant hang on 6/9 at about 10500 feet along the Mosquito Pass road east of Leadville, CO. Temps dropped to 47 but I was snug as the bug.

I was very displeased with damage done to trees, litter and general disregard for the easy access locations I checked out. Not being altitude adapted I chose not to hike to a nicer spot.

We planned on hiking into a site at Crosby Manitou State Park, but it was already 8pm an only two of the farther sites were still available. Went back to Finland, Mn and stayed at a beautiful site just off the Baptism River. An almost empty campground too. Got a bit chillier than expected in the morning, but the wife slept in till after 9am!

A few hangs from my recent BWCAW solo. My first solo and my first wilderness hang. I thoroughly enjoyed it and slept like a baby.

a nice hang between two large White Pines

Porch mode. Not a single stake was used in this set-up. Got lucky with trees everywhere I needed them

I'll be going to the BWCA in a couple weeks, and will be hanging.

This weekend headed to a family camp out. Family is already asking if I want to swap the hammock for a spot in a cabin. No way!

Will be hanging for the very first time in the BWCA next month. Been hanging around the backyard and messing with tarp, suspension, and hammock. Hoping I'll be ready by that time.

Not too late for me, going in September. Gull looks good from the pics. How about other lakes nearby?

Second trip of the summer on the Superior Hiking Trail. Only used the underquilt, never took out the topquilt. I can't believe I am saying this, but I would like to try out my Eno Housefly in the rain. I would like to see how the "doors" help with wind and spray.

Double hanging on my solo to Horseshoe Lake a couple of weeks ago. My WBBB is under the blue Granite Gear tarp and the Eno double was at waters edge for reading and star gazing.

Second campsite on Boot (1095), with 2 Hennessy's under cover

Note how wonderfully exposed it is - not very fun when the weekend storm came. The Superfly held up to 40+ mph winds, with just one small gash in it where a stake came out and dug into it.

Duncan, Rose and Daniels Lake And next weekend the wife and I at Trego town Park, Namekogan River WI

Spent six days July 28-Aug2 base camping on Jordan Lake with my three sons, daughter-in-law and a friend of one of my sons. Lots of wind, lots of rain, thunder and even some lightning. Kept dry and comfy in my RoamingGnome Dream Hammock (Happy Mother's Day to me from me), while No.1 Son and No. 3 Son had Yukon hammocks, and Eno tarps and bugnets. Don't think I can go back to sleeping on the ground.

I'll be hanging again this September. Only drawback I've found is when I drink too much on a windy night. I know I'm not the only one :)

08/19/2015 06:52AM
Did another family hang at Crosby Manitou SP in Finland last weekend. Hiked in with 84F temps. Was 54F by morning. A short taste of fall to come.

08/30/2015 05:16PM
I spent 9 nights in quetico but only had 3 camps. Emphasis was fishing and packing in luxuries so we were on North Bay and Sunday Lake.

I use a Warbonnet Blackbird and an early edition of the Superfly tarp with snap on doors. Rain was in the forecast so I put the doors on. I ended up getting slightly wet as the wind driven rain found its way in anyway.

The next camp the forecast was for strong storms so I took an old poncho I use to cover gear and firewood and rigged it to cover my western facing end. It turned out that the storm missed us so I removed the poncho for better airflow. It's fun getting creative with tarp setups.

Converted this year to hanging and it's been a trip. Much more exposed feeling in the hammock: even with a tarp. A much more comfortable sleep and I love beingoff the ground in wet weather. This is my wife and I on Insula and then myself and BenSki on Alice this June.

What did you use for those tarp tie-downs? It sure is bright!

Cord with a reflective tracer thread. It reflects light back to the source so you won't trip on guylines, (camera flash, headlamp). Interestingly enough it doesn't scatter light, though, so if someone else shines a light at it, it will glow back to them, but not to you.

Several manufactures make it in 2-3mm diameters and all work well.
Nite ize has it that can be bought on amazon,
Sterling rope has probably the best reflective cord (they manufacture climbing ropes)
Kelty has a similar product.
I've used one supposedly from from 3M before.

No, unfortunately my sewing skills aren't that good. It's from ENO. They call it an underbelly gear sling. This was the first time I used it. I think it worked really well. Here's a link to it.

Could be. All of my ex's have remarried ... multiple times.

They did seem to be cute at one time ... after lots of alcohol.
