I really enjoyed your trip report and pictures, housty! It really makes me eager to go on my trip.
You saw a lot of really nice, wild country. You can tell you're really out there when you don't see many people, the portages are less maintained and less used, and especially when you camp on a site that still has grass! :)

Sounds like good planning and execution. You sure are making up for all that base camping. :-) I enjoy the spring trips...bad weather and all but you got more than your fair share of bad weather. That many portages and not running into anyone is pretty good.

Fantastic report and great pictures. You travel solo really well and are a smooth tripper, I can tell from your pics. I want to take more trips like that and soon too.

Mark, thank you very much for the trip report, it was great. Way to keep getting points with the wife, sending flowers, fellow trippers take note. Your pictures were as usual really good, but I'm sure had you had some sunny days they would have been brighter and more colorful, but with so many grey days you did great. I'm torn between the picture of the water running through the cedar trees and the note on the snow encrusted canoe as my favorite. Again great report, I really liked the end an your impression, and what you would do different. FRED
Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fourtune to remember the ones do, and the eyesight to tell the differance.

Thanks for this report!
the wife and I will be doing our own SB to SB starting this sunday. We'll follow your route to Marlberg, but then head east on the Louse river. Hoping to make it as far west as Winchel/Brule before we loop back to SB.

Great report housty9!!!! I went in on SAT the 16th and came out the following WED. The snow on the 18/19th is the latest I have ever seen it snow in MN. I don't blame you for eating in the tent-- I was under a tarp or in the tent for the most of that day also. Did make it out for evening paddle---

Nice report. Lots of traveling. More aggressive than I am up to i fear. Not the miles so much as length. I thought I might be in the neighborhood. Went in on tues morn before you came out
Without the bad times, the good times wouldn't seem so good.

That was one awesome trip. You really covered some territory. Thank you very much for sharing the trip in words and pictures. Someday I am going to have to start doing solos as well. It is hard to work schedules to go with others, especially if you are going for an extended length of time. Happy Paddling!!!!

The camp site to the right of the picture with the foot bridge on the Kek Trail is my favorite in the B-Dub...I will stay there some day.
We have lunch there on our first full day hiking the Kek from East to West. (First day is a "short" day due to car travel.)
Great pics and report...go ahead and do more...;-)

I'm just here to give my opinion...If you don't like it, ignore it.

I loved reading your report. Great pictures and great adventure. Wolf and Moose, what a trip. I hope you can post more of your adventures, it is fun reading what other people are doing in the BWCA and how far one can travel.
Thanks

Dang, 4 moose and a wolf on one trip! I think maybe going in May had something to do with that? You didn't mention having any fish for dinner? Did you cook any? This trip looked very cold but it seems like you were well prepared. Lot's of cool pics too.
As for not setting up a tarp - I always used my big 11X14 (?) but really like the 10X12 silnylon tarp I use now for soloing.
