We are taking our boys (Tenderfoot and First Class) on their first BW trip this fall.
We are from Nebraska so almost all of the camping that they do as a troop around here is car camping. Is there anything that they can work on earning in the BW that they might not be able to do elsewhere? I was looking at the 50 Miler patch, but it looks like that has to be an official troop activity and not just a family trip.
They will both be earning their canoeing merit badges this summer at camp, so they won't have anything left do with that.
I plan on talking to their Scout Master but was hoping to maybe get some ideas from you all fist since he isn't really familiar with the BW.
Although my last merit badge was earned almost 60 years ago, I'm sure many are still the same. I quickly looked at a site that lists merit badges and requirements
https://www.scouting.org/skills/merit-badges/all/
Cooking, camping badges could be earned for sure. Others? Fishing, Photography, to name a couple of possibilities.
