I need some help from you experienced GPS user. I have tried downloading the BWCA portage and campsite maps from gpsfiledepot and MN topo to Basecamp. MN topo downloaded fine! but the BWCA map just show portage routes with no maps or lakes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and it just gets stuck and doesn't load. I have tried this on 2 different computers with same result. I have a Garmin etrex 20. Any help or suggestions would be so appreciated!

Go to, Campsite and portage information for BWCA
Save, bwca-portage-tracks.gdb and bwca-camp-port-wpt.gdb to your computer.
In Basecamp open a new List Folder, import into that folder the saved files.
Now you have a bunch of waypoints and tracks in the list to display with map of choice.
Hope this helps.

PS: I do not like the airplane icons, but they can be changed.

And I totally deleted the airplane icons. They just mark the ends of portage tracks already shown. I suppose you could use them occasionally to 'go to' a portage end, but I'd say they just add to the map clutter.

I'm still new at this--how do I delete the airplane icons??

In whatever application you are using, do whatever it takes to delete waypoints.
I was referring to using Garmin BaseCamp, where I highlighted all of the Arch Harris waypoints with airplane icons and P### and P###E names and chose 'Delete from My Collection.'
It doesn't change the gpx file, it just modifies the list of items in the application into which the data was previously imported.

Paddlingmom - the BWCA portage map from gpsfiledepot is a transparent map. It will not contain the lakes, roads, etc. Basecamp will not let you view 2 maps at a time. Your GPSr (etrex 20) will be able to view both maps at the same time. In the map settings of the etrex you can turn maps on/off. Turning on the BWCA and the MN topo will give you results that look like the screens on the BWCA portage map page of gpsfiledepot.

Schweady, if you have it saved, could you also send me the campsites waypoint file (bwca-camp-port-wpt.gpx)?
The portage track file you sent me worked great, but I'm having the same issue with not being able to download the campsite waypoints from the webpage.
EDIT: Butthead helped me out - thank you, sir!
