I had a Wenonah Saranac and a fishing kayak, then a Wenonah MN3 came up for dirt cheap and I had to buy it. That was a month or so ago. Yesterday I saw a Grumman 17' aluminum in great shape for $75 and picked it up. So should I stop at 3 plus kayak or continue adding to the fleet? Ps: my wife hates water

We're at 8. There's one I would like to sell but the cat likes playing under it in the garage. It may help to spread them across two states.

Several of you have a real sickness. And unlike COVID-19, it’s actually a wonderful sickness to have. I only have two canoes. Id like to have 4.

I've got a canoe and 2 or 3 kayaks. My dad has another 4 canoes and 2 kayaks so...we're good for a little while. (and we still rent canoes for trips up north)

You're definitely going to need at least two solo canoes. One should be more river oriented...durable, deep/dry and maneuverable. The other should be more lake-oriented...faster and not as deep to minimize wind effects. Perhaps a Hemlock SRT and Peregrine.

We've downsized, I think there's only 12 out there now. They're all paddle craft. I've never owned a boat with a motor or sail.

BTW, when I said 8 canoes, I meant canoes. I wasn't counting the rowing skiff, the sailboat, or the tandem sea kayak.

I currently own 3 canoes - 2 Bell boats in my garage and an Alumacraft stored at my son's place. Within the last 2 years at the same time I also owned another Bell boat and a kayak that have been sold. Frankly if I found another Alumacraft or Grumman in good shape for $75 I'd be hard pressed to pass it up regardless of what the wifey said.

We have only 3 tandem canoes (alumnacraft , Bell, Wenonah ) , a solo (prism), a kayak ( perception ), a row boat, and a fishing boat. If we had room I'd like to add another, but I don't want to get rid of any that we have.

Be interesting to see peoples' storage set-ups.

Mr. Owl? How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?

Two. One for just 2 and another for 3 people. That is what we did for over a decade and now down to one for us. If moire are needed any given year, we rent as needed.

lundojam: " too many boats Our own One Match."

I have no idea how country music business works, I just enjoy it, but that song seems like one that Luke Bryan would turn into a hit (almost seems written for him), so that begs the question, which is more lucrative, to try to make $ yourself singing it, or handing it off to somebody super popular

in any event, I enjoyed it as is, especially knowing the artist actually gets out in a boat now and again

Oh, and BTW 3 canoes, 2 kayaks, and that's all I dare have room for before perhaps getting in trouble with neighbors

07/06/2020 07:27AM
9 canoes......always have my eye open for a deal though.

The correct number is (n+1), where n = the number of canoes you currently own.

I don't think there's an upper limit on how many is enough, but I consider 4 to be minimum for my needs (lake tripper solo, river tripper solo, lake tripper tandem, river tripper tandem).

I am always on the lookout for canoes.....

07/06/2020 02:32PM
Uh yeah, probably asking the wrong crowd. I'm up to 2 usable and 2 in currently unusable condition. Latest one was a Mad River Explorer needing all new furniture. Free boat, but probably $300-$400 in gunwales, decks, thwarts, and seats....

So far we have three! And are usually on the look out for more. I recently saw a Colden for sale in my Midwestern state, but couldn't pull the trigger on it even though it is one of my dream boats. I will have to keep my eye out for one in the future, and keep adding to the canoe fund!

To be honest, I really don't know for sure how many canoes my wife and I currently own.

I do know for sure that she has 2 solo canoe of her own.

This year I've sold 3, and I lost count of mine.
My best guess is that I currently own 1 tandem, and 19 solos.
But it may be one tandem, and 18 solos?
The maximum number that I have owned at one time was 24, but storage became a major issue.

Knowing myself as well as I do; if a pristine condition SRT, or Dragonfly was offered to me at a killer price.............I'd likely buy one or both.
I sincerely regret ever turning those 2 canoes loose.

My wife always says, "Bob don't own one of anything that he likes"!
She doesn't care at all. There is her money, my money, and our money.
I always pay with my money; except for the time she paid for the restoration of my 1965 Chestnut Pal.

I offer as evidence of my sickness a photo of my (2) motorcycles; both of which are different years, but the exact same model.

As many as you can use. I’ve got 5, a Bell Northwoods 4 for when the whole family is along, a Northstar NW 17, a Northstar ADK Solo, a Northstar NW Solo and an Osagian 17’ aluminum. Three are at our cabin and 2 are at home. Then we never have to go without a canoe. All 5 boats get used every year, some more than others, but they all see the water. If we ever get to the point when we’re not using one, I’ll get rid of it.

Hope Fall Ozark Rendezvous is on
Dragon Fly could come to you.

What the killer price is is to be seen.....

I only have one right now, but would like to add to the collection. Borrowed a solo canoe a few years ago that I really enjoyed so would not mind adding one of those to the fleet. Also need a larger one so that we can get more of the family into a single watercraft. Current boat is in Tuffweave, so wouldn't mind upgrading there - just to save a little weight of course, only makes sense. And if I have all of those I'll need a small place to keep them so I don't take up all the room in the garage....the beat goes on...

07/06/2020 05:06PM
Then I guess it's not too crazy to want to buy just one more.....a 16' NovaCraft Prospecter in Aramid Light....I don't want much :)
