Who's looking due north--the subject or the photographer?

01/09/2021 08:04PM
Good question about orientation! I did mean the photo is framed looking north.

First hint:
Depending on your map sources, the total portage length to/from this lake is about 330-345 rods.
Edit: I now see another source for portage distance, so let's say ~275 to 350, to be safe

From roughly the same spot as the first photo, this one is looking more Northwesterly. I think the low point on the horizon is close to dead-on NW.

Another hint:
In the first photo, there's a portage landing on the furthest shoreline that is visible more-or-less directly above the human's head (perhaps a hair to the right).

In the second photo there is a portage on the far shore, a bit left of the low point of the horizon

Fat. The outfitters portage is the long one of variable length. The one in from Eugene is shorter and that portage clue threw me off.

Well I could stand to lose five or even ten pounds, but it's a tad insensitive to call me Fat!

Was just waiting to hand this back to you Cowdoc, nicely done.

Damn I've been there. Went in thru Eugene where we we camped for two nights. I remember Fat as being smaller than what the first photo shows. How the mind fades as we age.

SNS, so you are saying there is someone better than cowdoc at this game (e.g. MJ)?

There may well have been some better, but like MJ, they are no longer in their prime - Cowdoc is the star of our times!

I think doc's been to every lake at least 3 times.
