Here's a photo facing mostly south. One guess so far was within a couple miles of this lake....

One way to exit, or enter, Lake 63 is via a short portage and very scenic paddle....

Lake 63 has more than a couple campsite options...the first photo faces east.

Another way to exit, or enter, Lake 63 is a very scenic paddle through this lake in the second photo......make sure to drop a line as lakers are in its depths....

Banksiana has it!!

You beat me to my last clue!! Elk Lake is also a trout lake as well as having walleyes and pike. And most of Elk's surrounding lakes also have trout. But I go into Elk mainly for it's trophy smallies....like this one caught from camp at dusk...

PineKnot: "One way to exit, or enter, "

I read that wrong, thinking you meant one way in, and same way out.
Not that I'd have gotten it anyway, as my last time on Elk was 1975.

That I may have confused you, Stumpy, I take as a badge of honor.... :-)

I camped on Elk for four nights in October with my three year old son (at the site in Pineknots photo). Terrible weather- gales from the NW and pelting rain and snow (temps in the mid-30's). My two other tripping partners would head out to fish along the lee shores and would paddle back to camp to show us any lakers over 7# that they caught before releasing them. Beautiful water on Elk and (as noted) astonishing small mouth.
