Missed my Saturday morning staple of the show. Last week he said he had prostate cancer and it was the first show he missed being on in 33 years. I admire that and enjoy his show, he fishes in all kinds of weather and catches a lot of big fish, some of those musky shows this year were epic. He has built relationships with some of the best guides in the area. I hope he comes back and the show goes on, so to say. I wonder who is going to take over the reins when it is time.
Good luck to you JG, hope to see you back in the boat soon, catching big fish and grilling your beloved Johnsonvilles..

Huh - My tv didn’t record the last 2 shows, but I found them on YouTube, watching the Muskie show with Pete Maina, who I think might take over the show, but putting a show on every week might be more that he wants to take on. That is an amazing record, 33 years straight never missed.

I loved the Pete Maina episode, he did a great job. Agreed tho I don't know that Pete would want to put forth that kind of commitment but again he did an excellent job hosting. If you're not fishing on a Saturday morning yourself the next best thing is watching other people do it.

I love the guy’s show, he has the enthusiasm few other fishing show guys do. Looked forward to it- getting up Saturdays with those first couple cups of coffee…..until….. NBC Sports Chicago discontinued the channel and Comcast/XFinity did not pick it up. Have to pull up Youtube now if I want to watch it.
Many fishing shows give you the technical tips, which is fine, and other shows just show fish after fish being pulled in with the lesson being to book a trip to Saskatchewan. But to me, it should also be fun to watch. Gillespie fits the bill. Others that come to mind include Bob Izumi, i enjoyed when he had a show.
I like that Gillespie’s places are more accessible, distance-wise….not that I get there as often as I’d like.
One disgreement with him : I insist on puncturing Johnsonvilles while grilling, because I don’t want an explosion of grease burning my mouth and staining my shirt. :)

I haven't seen the show recently due to it going off in Chicago. Sorry to hear that, I have been watching for almost as long as he's been on the air. Met him a couple of times in Wisconsin bars, and he's the same as you see on TV. Very genuine. Hope he recovers!
