Anyone know why this says it can't be used over a campfire?

Guessing, but warping and hot handle burns are probably the concerns.

I just called GSI and that's the exact reason they gave.

Our 16" Carbon Steel pan should have topographic lines drawn on it....still works fine. Leather fire gloves solve the other problem.

I have one. I’ve only used it on one 5 day trip. Worked great.

With so many alternative available, including other GSI skillets, that are suitable for use over a campfire, why would one buy a camping skillet specifically advertised as not suitable for use over a campfire?

Guidecast Frying Pan

Steel Fry Pan

If you have a round hole, avoid shopping in the square pegs aisle.

Avoid Non-stick coatings… Forged RAW aluminum is where it’s at ;)

That GSI cast iron looks pretty good, I think a no-handle design (using a pot gripper) would be ideal - handles are clumsy to pack.

Agree that the nonstick option is a pass for cooking on fires.
