I decided to take inventory and organize my gear space. I consolidated it from my studio, the garage and the basement.Adding my new Pioneer pack and my tarp gave me a happy feeling inside. I know that's sounds cheesy, but I guess I am a sentimental camper.
The map is for North Shore Skiing. I found it in my husband's stuff, so I hope he likes that I put it up.

Nice.
I have most of my stuff in one area of the attic. I have one shelf and several plastic RubberMaid-type bins. Canoes are in one shed. Then another shed has other "outdoor storage" stuff like paddles, stoves, and fuel.
I have it very organized, but it is in three places.

ALl of my gear, (excluding canoes) is in my camping closet that I have in my shop! Keeps it all together, everything from Water Purifier tablets to ropes, to tents, to cook gear! Only thing not there is our down sleeping bags kept fluffed in our closet, and our sleeping pads, which are kept under the bed rolled out!

Sweet weapons!
My gear is mainly in the garage. Two bins on a shelf and my packs are in the garage attic. Canoes hang from the garage ceiling. Only my paddles, fishing reels, and maps are in the house.
Such is the way when you don't have a basement.

Ooooh! I so hope to have a space like that once we get our new house. The one that was offered on before we could offer on it had the perfect space...a separate storage shed (one of two to choose from) or else in the basement on built in shelves. Yes, I am still sad about missing that house. ;-)
Nice job, tremolo!

My gear space got much more organized once my wife developed a vested interest:) Now everything has a drawer or hanger. BTW Tremolo... I hope those aren't down sleeping bags rolled up in those tight little stuff sacks. That would be tragic.

Pawn Stars is a Reality TV show I believe on Discovery Channel. Entertaining show about well.... a pawn store.

I was thinking exactly the precise words that I just saw that forestmaven used. Now having read this thread, I have to scour the house and set something up. Right now it's on top of shelves, in plastic buckets, and just sitting in corners all around the house. It's sickening to me, and to my wife, so I better do something about it. Picking a room to organize, like some of you have done, must be the way to go. Then, like the 'shrine' thread, I can finally set up some neat stuff I have collected over the last while and set that up too. Thanks, this have motivated me to do something about it.

My gear is stored on my favorite shelf:
My garage is fairly tall. I built a 4'x16' storage shelf above the garage door. One half of the shelf has canoe gear stored in rubbermaid tubs.
I love these shelves.
After hunting or ice fishing, I pull my truck in the garage and close the garage door. I step in the bed of the truck and put my gear on the shelf. No muss, no fuss, the gear is quicky put away and stays out of the way.

One 4' x 7.5' set of shelves in the garage, plus rafter space above that, and two storage bins, one in the garage and one in the house, plus two upper shelves in a house closet (5' each) for sleeping bags and pads. And several very detailed lists to help me stay organized. People I taught with would look at my desk at school (piled high), and then do a canoe trip with me (organized and detailed), and think I was two different people.

I'd be embarrassed to post a photo, due to how disorganized it is - always seems to be in the process of being rearranged. But when my oldest boy moved out, I took over his room as my gear room. Pulled carpet up and had linoleum floor which is real nice for tossing wet, muddy gear on. I have everything from skis to scuba, backpacking to paddling, and a dash of caving gear in there. A fair amount is stored in clear plastic tubs which serve as a filter. The most often used stuff stays near the top, and the least used works its way towards the bottom. Where it's probably composted eventually. Now that I think of it, that could be what the smell in there is...

All of my stuff is in the "man room". My wife doesn't go in there and she calls it that. I have a 6 foot long work bench with cabinets underneath, a legal size filing cabinet, and a shelf for rubbermaid totes and such along one wall - the other wall has all of the shelves and racks for all of my fishing gear. The hunting stuff is in another room.
The camping gear fits into the totes, on the shelves, and in the filing cabinet. I threw the filing cabinet in there just to get it out of the way and it has turned out to be quite useful for all of the misc. gear.
It only gets complicated when I am camping while hunting and or fishing. Luckily I am a list person so I will always have my lists to help me pack.

My wife says "I need a building for all my crap"
I agree. I have it scrambled all over the basement and garage.
The upstairs is hers, the downstairs is mine. Funny thing is as long as she doesn't touch anything, I always know where it is. (almost always)

It's like that in my house too. My wife never goes into the garage shelf where my fishing and camping gear is. I hide her Christmas presents in there and know they're safe. :)

Amazing how effective that is. There are spiders in my gear room. Big nasty ones that hitched a ride in my pack and are now really mad and hungry. At least that's what the wife believes and I know better than to argue with her. They're in the garage too I bet.
