Good doggie!
Yeah I was thinking it was all girly, with the doggie paddle and the puppy parade....I'm female but not usually like that so it was almost rubbing me the wrong way, too. But I'm a sucker for alliteration, apparently.
I will post a pic of Booker later. I am currently using my iPad and I don't think I can do it from the iPad.

Here is Ramzi exploring the trails behind out site on Winchell with my last summer.
Ramzi refusing to lay on the ground. He's a 50 pound lap dog.
Locked on point. In this case I believe he's pointing at a bumble bee on a flower. Kind of looks like he's stopping to smell the flowers though.
Refusing to be left behind. I had taken a small row boat out for a little paddle and Ramzi refused to be left behind, he swam along side for quite a long ways. No worries about his swimming ability.

Freddie my 15.5 year old Beagle on Fall Lake in 2010.
I don't know if she will go on anymore canoe trips or not. She isn't tolerant of bugs and the heat like she used to be. She sleeps most of the time and goes for shorter walks.
We may do a little day paddling in the kayak where I can keep the bugs off of her.

Great lookin' group of canoe/camping dogs!
The first 2 pics are from our Quetico trip in 2010 with Karma (the rust colored mixed breed) and Jake (8yr old Bernese Mtn. Dog). Unfortunately we lost Karma (aka "Dingo") to cancer in September, she was such a good bow partner and LOVED fishing.
Bella is our newest addition to the family, she is the Bernese on the left in the pic of both dogs. Big reason we aren't doing a canoe trip this year is because she has gotten WAY bigger than we expected. She's 10 months old and about 90 pounds already (outweighs Jake by 10 pounds and still growing!). There's no way we could comfortably fit both of them in the canoe with 10 days worth of gear. Some people have said "well just leave them at home", but neither of us wants to trip without them. We'd be missing a big part of our "pack" and it just wouldn't be the same. Besides, Bella still has a lot of puppy mentality to grow out of before I'd trust her in a canoe...there's a reason I call her my "crazy monkey" :-)

2K10, your dogs look a lot like mine, only I'm sure mine is far smaller. (55lbs) He is an English Shepherd.
Do you leave their coats natural or give them trims in the summer? We have a neighbor that keeps hounding us that Booker needs a summer trim...I don't think so.

They do like similar to Booker! I do keep their coats natural, could never imagine shaving a dog that is meant to have long hair, unless of course there is a reason to do so (medical, badly matted, or maybe skunk smell that won't come out).
They key to maintaining a healthy coat and keeping them cool in the summer is they get a daily brushing (they also get salmon oil in their breakfast, helps keep the coat shiny). Amazing how much hair comes off every single day. They also have a kiddie pool of their own to cool off in if they want, but most of the time they just hang out in the shade. Jake was on a canoe trip mid-July when the temps were in the high 80's, and he did just fine/didn't overheat.

Awww...what a cutie! What's his name? Quite the difference in size compared to your other dog :-) Congrats on your new pal!

my new labs name is milo or millo, i don't know, my daughter named him. right now milo weights 12 lbs, the same as my pretend dog, abbie the crabby chihuahua. milos dad weighs 75 lbs, so i think milo will be quite a bit bigger than abbie, abbie will be the boss though, no question about that.

Thanks for the info. Glad to know Jake hasn't overheated on a trip. I think we'll be fine with the forecasted temps.
The English Shepherd also comes in a tri-color more like your dogs; they'd really look alike then. We don't do a good enough job brushing him...I will work on that. He doesn't get mats or anything and really there isn't much hair around the house, so I guess I haven't thought too much about it.

Bosco and Mumford:
Bosco is the choc lab and Mumford, a labradoodle. Funny that the mix was twice as much as my pure bred lab with hunting pedigree.
This was last June on the Vermilion river in north central Illinois. They are now 10 months old and around 70 lbs each. We hope to take them to the BWCA next year. They still have some training to do....

This is our new puppy, Hilde (Hill-dee) now 6 months- a choc lab. We got her for the kids for Christmas. She's currently in training to be a 'good dog', but gives us quite a run for our money. So far she's proven she's gonna do what a dog will do (lol)...squirrel chasing, rabbit chasing, digging holes, chewing whatever and providing lots of love and attention. We hope her first canoe trip will be this Sept.

Just got a GSP puppy on Sunday! His name is Crosby! He just missed the spring trip but will join us in October.

Just discovered this dog site.
Mocha on Insula Lake 2011, she passed the next June to a leaky heart valve. Elsa/shepard mix is riding up front. They are both rescue dogs, Elsa is missing her left eye.
Mocha and my wife on one of her/Mocha's first trips near the Isabella River.
The whole Famdamily, in this picture at a Humane Society Fundraiser. Foxy is a rescue Shepard Collie mix, She is 10.5 YO now and Elsa is 8.5 YO.
Foxy in the Beartooth Wilderness, Mt. Elsa showing off her missing eye.
Back to mocha on section eighteen lake, Isabella Mn.
Back packing with Elsa in the Beartooths.
Elsa and Foxy in the Beartooths.
A couple of tired pups in the Bighorn Mountians in Wyoming.
May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.
