thank you for this trip report. what a great trip for you, i could sense your thankfulness in this trip, things go right, fish biting, equipment working, northern lights!!!, time with your son, and your wife gets to enjoy nature as well as some fun mothers day activities.

I am so glad to read this trip report - been rooting for you to make it. Seemed like things were conspiring against you when you realized the season was closed when it looked like ice out would be a few weeks earlier than it turned out to be. I'm taking your advice to heart; Carpe' Diem!

What would be fun is fishing for whitefish when they are surfacing and feeding on mayflies.
Yes lake trout on the surface is a ball.

Thank you for this trip report. I don't think I can put into words the memory's this brings back of the last fish my father caught. I am sitting here at work drinking the first cup of coffee all teared up reliving some beautiful but haunting memories. I really appreciate your journey and I can relate to this from your sons perspective. Maybe I will start a new thread "Last Fish" to help process my thoughts running wild through my mind right now.
