Another enjoyable photo report. We were somewhat in the same area (Juno/Vern/Brule) over Memorial Day weekend so, it was interesting to see some of your experiences weather/bug wise etc. Thanks for putting this report together - still haven't started on mine yet. :(

Paul - We were close... that would have been pretty cool to run into you again. The weather has been crazy. In 10 days we only had rain once... and that was just a couple tenths over night on May 30. It's definitely dry up there!

Went in via Baker two years ago with my forever paddling partner, my wife, and stayed at your second campsite for a couple of nights. Was great to reminisce through your pictures. Did not take the portage north to Jack Lake but have that on my "to do" list of trips. Thanks for sharing this.

Another beautiful slide show that brought back memories of my trip in Baker EP to Cherokee and back through Sawbill in fall 2019. Spent the first night at campsite 908 on South Temperance. That was a nice trip and new country except for Cherokee and Sawbill lakes. Thanks.

Really enjoyed your slideshow, superb photos. I was on South Temperance during your time on the lake (far NW campsite) so it’s particularly interesting to see your beautiful pics of the area. Looks like you all enjoyed a great trip with some really nice wildlife sightings. Thanks for posting.

The photos are great and it was interesting to see the area in the spring. The photo with the swans and eagle was great. You also got to see a moose.

What bug screen tarp do you use? What kind of poles are you using to help support it?

Thanks for watching! The bug shelter is a Nemo Bugout 9x9. They seem to be hard to find these days. The poles on the high ends were re-purposed from an old set of tent poles... works well.

That is a great use of old tent poles.

Do you find that this keeps the rain off as well as say a CCS tarp? It seems you bring one or the other?

Do you ever pitch it with a ridge line? Looks like one tall end connected to a tree and the other tall end uses a pole.

The Nemo is very water repellent like my CCS tarps. Although there are no tie-out tabs along what would be the ridge line, so I doubt that would work too well.
Some trips I have taken both, even though it's footprint is smaller, the Nemo is lots bulkier than CCS tarps due to all the netting.
I try to tie each high end to a tree and the lower ends just get a pole with cord to a stake. Not sure if you can tell from the slideshow but each tall end has a zippered door.

I found an older thread on the forum about the tarp. I'm not sure if I should revive that thread.

In any case, there have been some problems reported with the corners. Seems like directly tying from a corner to a tree might not be the best in a strong wind.

I have seen the suggestion to run the ridge line under the tarp. One poster mentions that might cause abrasion to the tarp. It also seems that in the rain that the rain might run down the ridge line and drip under the tarp.

My interest is because I have an August trip coming up and might be setting up a 12x12 for the first time.
