Portage Clearing with The Wabakimi Project. Debbie and Andy at the Altar Lake end of a 379 meter portage from Vale Creek. On this one there was a slope to the left and cedar trees and boulders to the right. We had to run along the contour line at the bottom of the slope. It brought us to the water right at a two foot high stump that had clearly been chopped with an axe many many years earlier to mark the landing. We are doing the work that portage crews did in the the BWCA and Quetico over 100 years ago. We have, over the last 13 years located, cleared, measured and mapped the portages in a 6 million acre area we refer to as The Wabakimi Area.

bottomtothetap: "tobywan: "
Portage from Kiskidinna to Omega."
Your face shows what I felt when I portaged this. Not real long and looks innocent enough on the map but man it was a tester--especially if you had done Muskeg to Kiskidinna as your previous portage! "
We got them all three - Long Island-Muskeg, Muskeg-Kiskadinna, Kiskadinna-Omega - in this post. A real testy little trio all together :).
