You two are an awesome couple! Congratulations on 50 years together. I stayed at some of your camp sites in 2013. Quetico Lake is so wild, we were windbound on it for two days after entering from Beaverhouse.

Well, just as I expected, this is an absolutely STUNNING trip report!! Your photos are breathtaking, and since we had never been in this part of Quetico, it was just great fun to vicariously experience your anniversary trip with you.

Congratulations on your 50 years together--I find myself thinking I would like to use Tia's quote about marriage and canoe tripping myself, but I won't steal it!

We have had some anniversary trips, but since our anniversary is in December they have never been canoe trips. Yours was ambitious, and from the report, it looks like it was very successful. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks for sharing.

The photos of the flowers and the eagle were a particular highlight.

It is impressive the miles you cover even in the face of the wind.

Terrific report. It sounds like the Badwater-Quetico portage has possibly seen some recent maintenance? I've yet to paddle that area but it is high on the list. Nevertheless, some have warned us to avoid that portage due to length combined with swampy conditions. Hopefully that has changed for the better.

Thanks! We should have stayed windbound, but wanted to be closer to our resupply point.

Thanks for the kind review, Lynda! Tia says you're welcome to use her quote about marriage as is or as you see fit to modify. The trip was quite successful, and may have been the best paddling weather we've ever had in BWCA/Q. Glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks for the kind review--I'll probably never be able to duplicate that eagle shot. The flowers are easier--they don't try to get away when I'm near. Our typical mileage for a 10-day trip runs 100-125 miles, and (except for our exit day) our wind day was our least mileage and below average for us. And we were worn out when we reached our site. My only negative comment about the northwest corner of Quetico would be that there's no easy escape from the wind on the big lakes there.

Thanks! I'm not sure when the Badwater-Quetico portage last saw maintenance, and some areas could use some corridor trimming. We think the lack of swampy conditions had more to do with time of year and low water levels than recent maintenance. Not much one can do about the portage's length except stop and rest as needed.
