Well, if Ben will be there, it is a must attend event; bigger than the Elvis reunion tour!

Hahaha.... me attending keeps the crowds down. It would be great to see you there Mark! Would love to hear how big your fleet of canoes is getting. I promise to be well fed before I come down... haha! (Marks wife never lets him paddle with me. She was afraid I’d eat him. Hence, now I’m known to them as cannibal Ben).
Stumpy... it would be great to see you there. We’ve enjoyed your presence before and you're much missed I know.
Last year, also our late friend Mitch’s significant other was there to hear stories and such of his impact. She was amazed, I think!
Thanks Adam for reviving a tradition. Met some great new folks last year and caught up with some great old friends. Never take your canoeing friends for granted. This group is the real deal.

Looking forward to it. Last one I went to was with my son Charlie. He was surrounded ."
Oh my goodness. Big duckling was in middle school in that picture and she’s graduating next month. That was a fun day.
Definitely looking to make it so I can catch up with old friends and meet new ones in person that I only know on the internet.
The ducklings always had a blast and I’m sure Bruin will too.
I’m not coaching HS soccer anymore so the odds are definitely higher that I can make it.

Oh yes! I think I’m planning on coming, just me, and my littlest tent… will plan to share how I DIDN’T die on the Border Route Trail 2022 (Since so many of you were there last year on the lead up)… but will share some amazing take-aways from camping/hiking in mid-October, as well as crossing two beaver dams, football field length in size in 40 degree water, up to waist/chest deep while it was raining and snowing most of our trip!

And is it a group campsite? Or individual campsites? Reservations needed?"
Group campsite. No reservations required on individuals parts, just an RSVP. "
Thanks! Might work for me, depending.

Couple questions regarding this if you don't mind.
- What has the past turnout numbers been about?
- Dog's allowed?
- RSVP on here?
- So everyone pitches a tent near the barn? Are there any cabins nearby to rent instead?
- Is it a potluck or is everything catered? Does it cost anything?
- Also is there like a Q&A for these events or have they just been going on so long that everyone already knows what is up?

Mocha: "Seem to recall there has been a drawing for misc camping related items at the wing weekends, is that still a thing and if so, who collects those items?"Recently the drawings have just included some nice BWCA.com merchandise Adam has brought.
In the past there were donated gear auctions and prize raffles associated with fundraisers to help families of BWCA.com members that passed away. Unfortunately those type of events haven’t happened in many years due to a large amount of work that fell onto just a few individuals.
There have been “Free” piles of camping gear at most Wing events though.

Hey, I just found out about this and I happen to be camping at Interstate State Park that week and weekend. I might have to portage west over the river and check this out.

I think you should…. You’ll wonder why you didn’t just change your plans to camp with us the whole weekend.

I will be there during the day(s) only. I live only a couple minutes away and as much as I like camping, a comfortable bed is too much of a draw :).
As an intermittent BWCA.com visitor, I was sad that I found out about this event AFTER last year's was held (fun seeing friends in pics, though). I am happy to hear it is annually at Baker.
Adam, I have something that could help out this event. I will contact you.

Ben, if it was just me, that's exactly what I'd do, I even have a bed rigged up for the back of my truck. But my wife is coming and she wants to sleep in her hammock. It has 4 tires under her, an air conditioner above her, and it sleeps eight. And it's a real bitch to portage.

Bummer. I am going to miss this year's Wingnight Campout. Heading to Ireland for 2 weeks. Will miss seeing all of you and meeting new BWCA friends. I will most certainly toast a Guinness to ya! Have A Fantastic time! Hopefully see all of you next year.

Ok Trix, just did a quick search of pubs in Ireland. There's one called "the moose". Seems appropriate. I know, it's a big country. Just knowing you'll be with us in spirit is enough . My wife really wants to go to Ireland so maybe we'll get some ideas from you at next wing nite.
Without the bad times, the good times wouldn't seem so good.

Driving to Ely Sunday with a week based on Disappointment. I will show up for the wing Friday night (weather/rain a deciding point) then I will get a room and see you on Saturday. Looking forward to a fun time.
Mocha, I will be passing through the Twin Cities from Des Moines around 11-12 Sunday. I could meet along the I-35 corridor if that works for you.

If there is need, I have a generator that can handle a load… but so far it hasn’t been necessary… I even had a fridge there last year.

We have a barn to go to if the rains persist… I may bring a 10 x 20 shelter for near the fire pit area… I’ve also got two boxes of stuff donated by mocha … I hope people aren’t going to let rain dampen much… I understand coming from long distances are tough when foul weather is forecasted. Our most memorable camp outs have been wet!!!

I had to add... having coffee with my sister. She asked why canoers worried about rain. I told her we’re like a water dog... they see a lake or a puddle and in they go. Squirt em with a hose and it’s like giving a cat a bath. But there’s always the dogs that will play in a sprinkler…

Nice, I will be putting smoking some ribs for the pot luck.

I am bummed. I had a reality check today that my work event is going to run so late on Saturday, that the potluck would be winding down by the time I would be able to get from Eagan to Roseville to Medina. Ugh! I'll miss seeing everyone...but will watch for photos.
09/21/2023 02:05PM
A couple of questions as I plan to attend the pot luck
1. What to bring - is there something that is usually lacking or on the other hand something to avoid since everyone else brings it?
2. Is there anyone that will be there that use hippies and wading boots that would be able to drag them along? I've read about them but have never really seen them in person. Just curious as just pictures a lot of times don't really convey what something feels like, weights, etc.

mr.barley: "I'll be missing it this year. I'll be getting ready for an October trip with mooseplums and my son. Kind of a last minute thing that's been coming together the last couple days. Not even sure where we're going yet. "
Enjoy the trip wherever you go in, my friend!
Alas, I will not be attending myself this year. Sorry to disappoint Zulu that I won't be there to make the Pumpkin dump cake in person. However, the recipe is posted here on the board by myself under Recipes: Desserts.
If you are on the fence about going, my advice is: just do it! Go! What have you got to lose? I for one have met new people and made lifelong friends from some great folks I met on the Internet! You won't regret it! Have a great weekend everyone! Looking forward to photos!

You or anyone (not sure where you would be coming from) but if Saturday your busy, there’s always Friday night camp fire. MN Green brought a fair amount of wood... and actually we’re here all day tomorrow (Friday). I’m here now and tony figures he’ll be here after work yet tonight...

I’m still planning on coming. If I survived the BRT in October when it was freezing rain and snowing on us the entire time, I can surely come join you guys with a DRY BARN to boot! :-) Not sure what I’ll bring yet, maybe tortilla chips and cowboy caviar?
I’ll be coming Saturday.
Cricket, no, usually nobody even shares what they’re going to bring. But somehow it always works out.

The Wingnight has begun! Some great BWCA.com merchandise and some donated camping items will be raffled off on Saturday. We are signing a paddle for our member Merganser who passed away right after he left Wingnight last year.
Lots of Firewood for both nights. Saturday Potluck. A nice dry barn for shelter. Plenty of room for tents. The Fall foliage is in peak color. Hiking trails adjacent and nearby paddling.
Friendly people and dogs are arriving now.
I’m looking forward to connecting with members and hearing about their adventures. You should come and camp or come for just the Potluck on Saturday.

Zulu: "People have traveled from Chicago, Madison WI, Goodland, MN, Duluth and Isabella MN! It’s great meeting everyone and their dogs!"
Greetings to all in attendance! I'll be there in spirit but a trip from the west for this is slightly too much, Especially since the traveling done in the last several months. Including my first foray into the "Q". Trip report coming, though it might just be a photo diary.
Keep this going! I'll make it one year for sure. I don't want to brave the pre-August bugs but a mid-September trip sound doable. And a stop at this event on the way out would be mandatory!.
PS I'll be need'in a hammock spot.

I’m so bummed that I won’t be there today, but I get to spend it with my brother that lives in Costa Rica. I picked him up at the airport last night and we are heading to Winona today to watch his son play soccer for St Johns. I did give my brother a hard time for picking this weekend as the one he came home for.
Looking forward to stories and photos. The set up pics from last night bring back some great wing night memories.
Have fun everyone.

It was great meeting some members for the first time and catching up with others! The weather was somewhat accommodating. The food was great!
Thanks to everyone for showing up, as well as, those who sent or brought raffle or giveaway items, firewood, and community gear!
Looking forward to next year.
