Trip Introduction:
Perent Lake Trip

Report

We spent a full week on Perent Lake this year with a party of 6. Came in thru Hog Creek, which was the most interesting & challenging part of the trip. The outfitter maps were virtually useless on Hog Creek which turned out or be a longer passage then we assumed. We simply couldn’t find our location in Hog Creek on the map as we canoed thru it, so we ended up following the current in the creek to find our way to Perent. That turned out to be a wise call as there were several forks in the creek that were confusing. It took about an hour and 45 minutes to navigate the creek both in and out. The heavy rain in the weeks before wiped out the beaver dams, so we had no lift overs on the way in, but the beavers repaired one dam by the time we left … which we had to walk over.

It was beautiful week with no rain at all. We tried to find a camp site on the east side of the lake by the main islands but were disappointed in what we found. Not much room for 3 tents and even poorer prospects for hanging food packs. We ended up at camp site 1002 which turned out to be very nice spot. Actually all the sites on the west ended looked to be better for larger parties, and less used.

Fishing was okay with enough walleyes for 3 night’s dinners. We found them in the shallows near weed lines this year. Caught and released a nice 6 lb. northern caught in the middle of the west end.

Also checked out the portage to Isabella Lake, but it was clearly not used much. Saw a few moose and wolf tracks in the mud, but that was as close as we got to actually seeing any.

It was a nice lake for an easy trip and the fishing was pretty good too. Few people were on the lake the week we were out.
