What, you went on the Kelso loop and didn't go up to see the Dolmen?

It sounds like you had a good time.

Last year is the first year that my wife hasn't fallen out of the canoe.

Awesome I am glad you had a great time. That Sawbill area can be tricky especially for a first time. Maybe next time bring a tent and stay for a night or two.

Welcome to the canoe world and the BWCA. I like the calm water picture on Clearwater-quite a lake.

Thanks for writing a trip report about your beginner experience. I think the idea of trying day trips was a smart start. Glad you loved it and hope you keep coming back and continuing to build new skills.

Thanks for the reminder about how tippy a canoe can feel to a beginner. We are hoping a friend from Costa Rica can come visit in time for our August trip. He has never canoed so working on his balance before we go would be very wise after hearing about your experience. I tend to take balancing in a canoe for granted since all of my family started as kids.

I enjoyed your report and the pictures. We did the Kelso Loop on our "Celebration Trip" back in September of 2009 but we putzed along and took several days to do it. It is a nice area. Good memories.

Clearwater is one of my very favorite places. Beautiful lake. If you are there again, you might consider making the climb up to the top of the Palisade. It is a gorgeous view from there. Our 15-year-old granddaughter did it with Spartan1 last summer and she took some beautiful photos.

Good job taking your time and exploring a number of great spots in the Arrowhead region and canoe country. Glad you made it to my namesake lake! Coming back again soon?
