200m bushwhack, paddle and a 1000m bushwhack (4 hours) got me to this lovely lake. Found the pictured ancient fire ring (only one on the lake) and made this island home for two nights.

Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, July 2024.

The walleye had likely never seen a lure, and were plentiful.

Back bay campsite in Woodland Caribou with lots of wildfire smoke . The kindling left by the fire ring looked like it was left at least 20 years ago. Loved this place!

Peter lake site. May 2012.
We didn’t camp here but did check out many sites on the lake and the pile of new latrines.
I’d love to see how this lake has recovered after 13 years.

Site # 5 at Crosby Manitou State Park on the southern fringe of canoe country. This park is backpack only and pretty remote...and gorgeous. This site had a long stretch of rapids in front of the site and in the right edge of the photo you can see the lip of a nice little waterfall. The roar of the water was incessant and we almost had to yell at each other to be heard. We spent a few days here and did a lot of hiking and took a lot of photos. There are some real nice large waterfalls upstream a ways. A very nice place.
