This works well - I haven't needed to change filters yet though probably will this season.
It packs up nice and small.
I lost the float last year while pumping from a canoe on a rough lake and couldn't find replacement parts locally or online so had to call the manufacturer directly. They were helpful and got me what I needed.

I like this filter a lot, though I wish the intake tube was a little longer. Fits all sizes of water bottles and packs up nice and small in its own little bag. Wrap a coffee filter around the intake filter to make it last longer. Plan on bringing 4-5 coffee filters with you as they wear out quickly.

I really like my hiker pro. I used it with up to six people in conjunction with the base camp filter. They take the same filter cartridge which really makes it nice. I actually broke the handle on mine and sent them an email and they sent me a new handle. I didn't lube the "O" rings and this should be done. They actually send a tube of lube with filter for this purpose.

I agree – the Hiker Pro is a nice little water filter. It’s easy to use, effective and compact. Definitely use a “pre-filter.” Instead of coffee filters, I secured a couple of layers of old pantyhose around the intake. The pantyhose dry out faster and don’t fall apart like coffee filters. I’ve had my Hiker Pro two years and have yet to change the filter. Once you get back from your trip, cleaning is simple and taking the unit apart to dry is fast and easy.

Perfect filter for heavy or light use. Change the filter after big dirty trips- but the BWCA can use much longer. I make sure it is taken apart and dired well after every trip.

works good but doesn't beat a gravity filter bag.
this filter has parts that break. will never buy it again, water tube attachment nipple broke twice and is not replaceable.

Works really well for us. I hear some complaints about the filter clogging up quickly, but we don't have those problems. We get our water away from shore so we don't go through many filters - 1 or 2 a season. If you get the water near shore, though, I can see how it would clog quickly.

I use the hikers, the basecamp and have the bag filter. All are excellent. The bag type gravity filters a little slow. I lent out the pump type filter only to have it returned with gravel in it. Was able to assemble, clean, and reuse with ease. Recommend it to everybody.

I used mine this weekend for the first time an found it to be a great product. The filter never clogged or became slow and had no after taste like some of the chemicals do. It was easy to use an filled a gallon jug in only a couple of minutes. Mind you I used it in the cleaner part of the lake but even still the Hiker Pro never had a hiccup. Highly recommended.

The only pump filter I've used in the BWCA, so I can only compare against what I expect from such a piece of equipment. Over 3 trips the Hiker Pro has worked great. Very simple to use. Has a convenient storage pack and comes with lube to ensure the pump moves smoothly. It has made it through 5 days (group of 6+) without needing the filter replaced. Word of caution: Do not put too much force on the offset handle, it will snap off.

I use this filter for my 2 week solo trip, another trip with four people and numerous day trips. Usually by the end of the season im ready for a new filter. I use a coffee filter on the intake and rinse the and dry the filter after trips. Easy to use.
