This newer model has the support bar running front to back and many people on the REI website have suggested this as a bad design. Apparently the old design the support bar went right to left. We are 5'8" roughly 180 pound people and I have never had any issues with stability or the feeling of falling over left or right. A lot of chairs to pick from out there, but I think REI got this one right for intersecting the weight, comfort and price. Can usually get an ugly color for 20% off.
