Entry Point 58 - South Lake

South Lake entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Gunflint Ranger Station near the city of Grand Marais, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 47 miles. Access is from Gunflint Lake with a 10-mile paddle and two short portages to South Lake. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

really enjoyed the report, esp the fishing news. nice photos, too. pretty scary deal with that tree falling near your tent! at least you had some downed firewood nearby!

When I stayed at that campsite I didn't know about the fishing on the other side. We proceeded to the main lake basin and didn't catch much but it was after a cold front. It was September and that bay was pretty well filled with weeds and hard to fish.
