The sail had us moving a little faster than we would be paddling. Of course that's when the wind was blowing, which it wasn't doing consistently. The horseshoes were left on the site by the loggers in the 1800's. We found several more in the woods in the general area. All artifacts were left where we found them. The photo I posted was of shoes that were left by some other camper near the site. They are still there for the next group to see.

Great trip report and nice photos. It looks like you guys and gals had a good time. Did your attempt at sailing work? What was with the hosesshoes, were they a find? I definitely hope youdidn't carry them in.

I enjoyed your report a lot. It resonated with me when you talked about the atmosphere on Crooked Lake being eerie/creepy. Not that I have noticed that in on that lake - but I have on others. It's amazing how much it varies from time to time and place to place. What's funny is when you talk to someone else and they say "oh yeah, I thought that campsite was creepy too!!"


Paddling Minnesota III's on Picket Creek (the EP into Mudro) and on the Moosecamp River might be hard. But I think the Moosecamp is worth it.

Ho Ho, agreed. As I said, I would be interested in being on Crooked Lake again to see how creepy things feel, if at all. The water just looked black and with all the current, swirls, whirlpools, along with the sky, weird.


We all loved the Moosecamp River. The boats were big, but all of us would do it again in a heart-beat. It just takes a little forward thinking and the occasional draw from the bow person.
