Entry Point 19 - Stuart River

Stuart River entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Kawishiwi Ranger Station near the city of Ely, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 28 miles. Access is a 480-rod portage to the Stuart River.

Glad you had a great time. 170 is a nice site. Next time you visit it, venture back west behind the island and fish Never Fail Bay.

I enjoyed your report. Your photos are so nice and I wish you had posted more of them for us to see.


Lac la Croix is special to me. It was central to my very first canoe trip in 1971 and I have returned there since, most happily, on several occasions. Thanks for sharing.

Nice report. I'm sure you'll be back for more. If you want to escape the crowds, Quetico might be an option.
