Entry Point 1 - Trout Lake

Trout Lake entry point allows overnight paddle or motor (25 HP max). This entry point is supported by La Croix Ranger Station near the city of Cook, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 30 miles. Access from LakeVermilion via 60-rod canoe portage or 180-rod portage that allows the use of portage wheels. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Great report! Paddled along the southern edge of that burn area this year and it sure is an erie feeling but I was facinated by the combination of the stark landscape of burnt tree trunks and bare rocks contrasted by the lush green understory of the new growth.

Thanks for your trip report and pictures. It's sad to see the fire damage in one of the most beautiful parts of the BW....but interesting to see the forest beginning its regrowth.

Nice report. Read it while at lunch today, reminded me of my trip last year through the alpine burn area!
