-1st off. sadly to say 2 of my friends were attacked in Ely the night before we left with a lead pipe. my one friend needed 17 stitches in his head. the other broke his hand blocking the pipe and then retaliating.
I only mention this as a percaution to others. it seemed as though this was a "locals who don't like tourists" type of attack. i was asleep when it happened and can't provide and more real detail.
-Little Indian Souix River North. water levels are low. beavers are hard at work, and created an extra little portage just north of the 160 rodder.
-we caught a LOT of fish. ate about 6-7 per night. northerns, walleye, bass, perch (we think)
-black flies had not hatched yet, but were due to anyday.
-we stayed at nice site. in particular i liked the one on east loon bay that had a private cove with sand beach!
-On Lower Pauness we caught may fish with minows and bobbers right from the shore.
great weather and great trip besides the Ely incident...look out for them crazy locals.
