Entry point was 25-Moose lake. Went north, and then west onto Ensign Lake. Camped on eastern end of Ensign lake. Very busy and lucky to get a campsite. Day 2, went to Cattyman Falls and on down to Disappointment Lake. All sites full. Had to get off the water due to inclement storm. Ended up on Parent Lake on day 3, western camp site. Beautiful site. Exited from Snowbank lake on day 4. Overall fishing was poor. Some small mouth bass on Parent lake.
Nothing elsewhere. Approximately 20 miles of paddling/portaging. 11 portages in total. Already planning for 2025.

Ensign Fishing trip

Trip Report

Entry Date: June 05, 2015
Entry Point: Moose Lake
Number of Days: 4
Group Size: 5

Trip Introduction:
Dad, little brother and friend. We try to do a base camp fishing trip every year but it ends up usually being every other.

Day 1 of 4

Friday, June 05, 2015 Up predawn and take the tow from the public landing next latourell's to the portage into splash. Really heavy fog. Without the GPS we could have been on an adventure already. Paddled across splash and attempted to power paddle up the rapids into Ensign but the water was a little too shallow for a good stroke so we ended up walking the canoes. Tried for the small island site but it was taken so we ended up at site 11. Set up camp and had some lunch the. Hit the waters. Pretty slow fishing. Caught a few smallmouth and a walleye or two. Go figure it was dead calm and sunny. Grouse drumming like crazy right outside camp. Whippoorwill lives in the tree above the site and provided a nightly serenade.

Day 2 of 4

Saturday, June 06, 2015 Group split up and my dad and the guide got enough walleye for a dinner. Brother, friend and myself mostly just eliminated areas to fish tomorrow. Tried minnows, leaches and crank baits.

Day 3 of 4

Sunday, June 07, 2015 The rookies beat the guide today. Hammered smallmouth in a shallow bay at daybreak and caught some walleye against a wall. Rained for awhile after lunch then fishing was on. They caught 2 decent walleye. We nailed walleye, smallmouth and northern. Good dinner

Day 4 of 4

Monday, June 08, 2015 Morning fishing was mediocre. Dismantled camp around lunch and made sure all was clean then headed out to make the tow. Dinner in Ely and got to see my great aunt,93 yes old, before hitting the sack to fly back to Texas next morning.
