Labor day weekend 2024.
Entry point was 25-Moose lake. Went north, and then west onto Ensign Lake. Camped on eastern end of Ensign lake. Very busy and lucky to get a campsite. Day 2, went to Cattyman Falls and on down to Disappointment Lake. All sites full. Had to get off the water due to inclement storm. Ended up on Parent Lake on day 3, western camp site. Beautiful site. Exited from Snowbank lake on day 4. Overall fishing was poor. Some small mouth bass on Parent lake.
Nothing elsewhere. Approximately 20 miles of paddling/portaging. 11 portages in total. Already planning for 2025.

Trip Introduction:
His First Trip & He Loved It!
Report
So, started my daughters when they were 10 so this year was my sons first trip in. I went back to a favorite and relatively easy trip. Water taxi through Moose and Newfoundland, paddle through Splash and Ensign, portage into Vera and set up camp. Usually not a bad paddle or trip. The winds were up and right at us through Ensign, took double the time to get through the lake, a tough battle the whole way, and not a fish to be had the entire way. Weather was great the whole trip, probably too hot. Bugs were out early and fish I think down a little early as well. We worked Vera hard and some neighboring lakes. Enjoyed each and everyday and has a blast. My son discovered he hates bugs, well more specifically mosquitos. Your in the bush, learn to live with them. Fishing was slow on Vera, we picked up a few and had better luck on a few other lakes. Have already planned and booked this years trip, Birch, Carp, Knife, Vera. Next year we will hit the east side out of Grande Marais. We love it and will be back each year.
