Trip Introduction:
Alan, Paul and I completed yet another canoe trip to the Boundary Waters in May 2026. The first 3 portages between Mudro and Fourtown lakes were challenging ... lots of rocks and precarious footing!
Since there were only 3 of us Alan and Paul paddled in Paul's Souris River canoe and I took the Northwind solo and tried a double blade paddle for the first time... it worked out well.
We broke camp most days but kept up a very modest pace... typically doing one portage and paddling only a few miles. It suited us fine.
We ate several fish meals and experienced a few days with rain but nothing serious. The black flies were just coming out and were an occasional annoyance but not a problem.
Overall, another great trip with a great group of guys!
