I enjoyed your report and I’m glad you had a good trip. However, please make sure you read up on Minnesota fishing regulations. You are only allowed one line in the water at a time. Two lines are only allowed during the winter, ice fishing. It is a pretty significant violation and is met with a steep fine as I’ve seen people get busted for this. You might want to edit your trip report and pull that part out, especially the photo evidence.

Tony, thank you for the info. I was completely unaware, somewhat embarrassed, and will definitely look into that further. I’ve seen this multiple times with other paddlers and had no idea. Thank you again.

An absolute classic Moose Lake trip. I did a loop through that area in 2018 and loved it. I loved how much detail you put - it really gave a great idea of how things were going and what you were up to. Congrats on the laker - such a fun fish to fight and the difficulty in locating them and getting them to bite makes it that much sweeter when you get one. If your buddy still has trout envy, I might suggest Kekekabic - lots and lots of lakers, generally on the smaller side (15-25 inches), but those are the best eaters, and you have a very good chance of locating them. Just go in the spring if you can when the water is colder so they're more shallow.

Thanks for the awesome report!

I’m not a botanist either, but you would have been sorry if you added raw red elderberries to your instant cheesecake. Cooking or drying the berries removes the cyanide compounds so the berries can be made into syrup, jelly, and wine.

Ha. Thanks. No real consideration for eating them. I was more curious than anything.
