Sometimes you hit it right, ..sometimes not. Although certainly not as cold, my June and July trips weren't much better.

There's always next year! Hope springs eternal, as they say.

I'll take 6 days of rain in the BW over 6 days of work..., if i could afford it that is.

Happy Birthday anyway. Too bad about your weather. That's fall in the North Country. You might get anything.

What type of rain gear do you use?

I'm amazed that you stuck it out that long. You were basecamping right?

MY plan was to get to Raven Lake but once I got set up at my first
camp and got my tarp up I never left. The rain gear I use is
Red Ledge, I think its the same gear they use on the crab boats
on TV.

Have you been to Raven before? I was there in August. I would be concerned going there solo as it's so out of the way and a dead end.

Lars,

I can relate entered South Hegman on a solo outing for the week and had the same rain and no sunshine. All in all a great six days !

No I have not been to Raven Lake, but it sounded like a
quiet and out of the way lake to be alone at.Not that I
dont like people, its just nice to be on my own
every now and then

weathers always a crap shoot. theres no way i could have basecamped that long.

about the remoteness question...

not wanting to see people is THE reason i solo. the more remote the better.

when ever i do see others, i feel like it lessened the trip.

I like being remote too but my concern would be going there solo. Just a safety thing. Do like Kanoes does and bring a spot locator.

Raven has a very beautiful portage into it. It's like an enchanted forest that you walk through with moss everywhere.. I really regret not taking pictures on it.

The bog path gets extremely narrow though. Here's a couple pics. This is my young son the day we left Raven. He was pretty fed up with the swamp at this point. The day before was long and grueling as we did some bushwacking and a 10 hour day.

Rain and all, I envy you that you were able to spend your birthday on a solo trip. You did it and that's great :-) BTW - happy belated birthday :)
