Trip Introduction:

Report

This fall, in September and October, I went back up to the Isabella area in Minnesota to do a short solo canoe trip. I hoped to complete this trip in September, but I revised my initial plans and I went back up in October to finish it. I’ve mentioned before that I worked for the US Forest Service from 1980 to 1983 out of Isabella, Minnesota. Some of these areas I hadn’t been to in about 25 years.

I wanted to do the Perent River. This river is not paddled too often due to about 12-13 portages in such a short distance. I’ve never been on the Perent River and this was the real reason for me going to this area.

I didn’t do a real narrative trip report (although I started one) for these two short trips but I have some comments about this trip that can be read after clicking on the link that will take you to a photo slideshow that I put together. To view the narrative, click on View in the upper left hand corner, then About this Gallery. These comments were under my post, Perent River, on BWCA.com.

The photos aren’t placed in order but the photos will give you a flavor of the area that I paddled. This area is more typical of a boreal forest.

There are some photos that aren’t in the BWCA, but most of them are. The names of the lakes and rivers I paddled on these two trips were Hog Creek, Perent Lake, Perent River, Isabella Lake, Isabella River and the Island River.

The one day I had to Mountain Bike 25 miles to the put-in at Hog Creek.

There are about 3 or 4 photos of the town of Isabella. Yes, those cover the whole town. There are a couple photos of two small log cabins and I stayed in both of these when I worked there.

I still may put together a trip report, but I haven’t had the time. Isabella Area Canoe Trip Fall 2007

Edit (12-25-08): I finished my trip report about my Fall 2007 Isabella Area Solo Canoe Trip. The narrative and many more photos are now posted on my blog, Dark Colored Pictographs.
