quote bapabear: "I got part way through your portage video and decided I was glad it wasn't me doing that one - looked pretty soggy and was the boardwalk one board wide?"
Yes, it was about 1 board wide - it was a split log, probably 6-8 inches in width. I called it the balance beam for a reason :)
What truly amazed me was that we completed this single-porting in 10 minutes walking (not including unloading and loading). I would have guessed the walking portion to be much longer, but then I had a 65lb hat :)
quote bapabear: "I fell once while carrying the canoe down some very slippery rocks. It hurt and was embarrassing. Seemed like the longest fall I ever took as I felt every nanosecond of the trip down until butt met rock."
Thanks for the commiseration - at least I'm not the only one to hit the ground flat. Getting up is a real pain too :)

Great report. You learn new things on each trip. You really adapted well to the challenges that faced you. Not all of your trips will be as wet or buggy. Keep at it and enjoy.

Thanks for the report. I've never been in that area, but it sounds like you enjoyed it and had a fun trip.

You guys seem to take everything in stride and have a great trip. I got part way through your portage video and decided I was glad it wasn't me doing that one - looked pretty soggy and was the boardwalk one board wide? I'm also pleased to see I'm not the only one that takes latrine pics - especially of the really nice ones! I fell once while carrying the canoe down some very slippery rocks. It hurt and was embarrassing. Seemed like the longest fall I ever took as I felt every nanosecond of the trip down until butt met rock. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, we really did enjoy it - I've only excerpted from my journal the more relevant things. We had so much fun discussing just about everything when in camp, and I cherish those memories well. The challenges of life that are overcome are sweet, and we certainly met the challenges!
I'll be heading to Crab Lake on Labor Day weekend (Ely side), and it'll be an interesting compare/contrast exercise.
