End of Sept/October trip with two girls, one mine + one friend. Ages 12 and 13. Short trip, but amazingly peaceful and happy with lots of fun memories!

Great Story, awesome shots of the Fall foliage and especially the giigly girls! I can imagine never a dull moment. The pancakes looked like they "would suffice"...even though it was second choice place :) thanks for sharing! I've never been to Ely!

Really nice report. A lot of times when things just don't go as planned, He has a way of making everything work out and just add to the adventure. Sounds like your trip was VERY memorable, in spite of your plans and it seems like you're already looking ahead to the next one.

Sounds like it was a great trip for you and the girls, Kelly, even though there were some "modifications". Fall weather seems to have a way of doing that, but you had some beautiful fall foliage. I never gave Slim Lake much thought as a destination, but I've been impressed with some pictures of the area.

What a wonderful trip. It always makes me smile to see so much pink camping! Something I see very little of in my household! Those girls look like they had a blast.

Love the trip title... i will now be singing Duran Duran for the rest of the evening in my head :-)

Great colors. Wonderful weather. Cute kids. You had it all.

You're right about teens napping. I took one last summer and he would sleep until nine or ten. So, I rose at 4:30 and fished alone.

I will paddle eternal, Kevlar and carbon.

I loved your trip report, it sounds like you had so much fun and made so many memories. I really miss taking my kids camping, that's when some of our best memories were made.

Thanks all, it was indeed precious time to simply ENJOY life and each other - whether it was what I planned to paddle or something else entirely. I love love love that my kids have certain things that are "tradition" by now - like Chocolate Moose and Piragis bookstore. It was after this trip that dd1 started saying that she "liked camping" again, but she still won't be caught dead saying she likes paddling. Still working on that one :)

I give a paperback photobook to the friend that joined us on this trip and just finally revealed a hardback book to my dd (along with ones of all the other 2011 trips we took). LOVE THEM. What a cool way to capture the memories along with the stories in text. I gotta write them soon after the trip though, or I can't remember any details.

Highly recommend photobooks as a way to capture some of the BW magic.
