Great report. I can't think of a better way to celebrate your birthday than in the BW with good friends and good fishing. Black flies be damned!

I find myself singing "rocks and roots" all the time up there!

Thanks.

We all have to believe in something. I believe I'll go paddle.

Ain't that the truth. But I think my lyrics might be from the explicit version. Ha ha

Very well done report Mike. The photos are really nice too! Thanks for the reminder to get in better physical shape for my fall trip. ;-)

I hope those blue walleyes didn't bite too bad.

Great report and wonderful trip mcsween. As I mentioned in my email, we did this trip but in reverse a few years back but later in the season so the currents on Crooked lake and the Horse River were not much of a factor plus we had some nice tail winds going east across Crooked Lake. I see we stayed on the same site on Sunday Lake (not really much of a choice) You guys did some long days.

I see we are the same vintage year although I don't think I will be celebrating any of my March birthdays in the BW.

Thanks for the fishing tips and again, great trip report.

I can only hope that when I die, my wife does not sell my fishing equipment for what I told her I paid for it

Great job Mike!

Since you didn't mention it, (and with the difficulty of parts of your route) I'm guessing the surgically repaired limb didn't give you any serious trouble?

Sounds like you had some fantastic fishing along the way & plenty of adventure for everyone. I'm guessing your next adventure might have more trout fishing potential. Thanks for taking the time to share your story & photos.

Thanks for the report and pictures - brought back memories of my short fall solo in Mudro a few years ago. I went to Moosecamp and back out through Fourtown to Mudro. I had pretty the same thoughts on the Mudro-Fourtown portages. The middle one was beautiful, and the two short ones on each end were a PITA, especially since they are all so close. Water levels were lower when I went and I avoided climbing up/down the rock after the 1st trip by going through the creek. I wish I'd had more time and went up the Beartrap, which is still on my list.

Nice report and pics! Some crazy good fishing, and right from shore too! Neat story about retrieving the rod and the fish still being on the line.

Thanks for the report. I enter Mudro to do the same loop next Saturday, except I will be doing it with 3 kids my wife and two dogs, not four grown men.. You now have the crap scared out of me from the river to the lake. Thanks a lot.

I think I have decided to do your loop backwards. That way I can scout that portage at Beartrap before committing to doing it. If I need to I can backtrack and just go up to Friday Bay and around. Any idea how long your loop was? I'm guessing 65-70 miles.

I think it was maybe 55 miles and like 25 to 30 portages.

We hit the water at mudro at 7 and pulled into camp at 5:15 pm we double portaged and did really bust ourselves. But it was a long day.

I just did the same loop only in the opposite direction. I don't think I'm tough enough to do it the way you did it.
