I am sitting here at work drinking the first cup of coffee all teared up reliving some beautiful but haunting memories. I am so glad to read this trip report - been rooting for you to make it. Seemed like things were conspiring against you when you realized the season was closed when it looked like ice out would be a few weeks earlier than it turned out to be. I'm taking your advice to heart; Carpe' Diem!

What would be fun is fishing for whitefish when they are surfacing and feeding on mayflies.
Yes lake trout on the surface is a ball.
