I have to give a THANK YOU to Spartan2 for editing and typing the report for me.

....and a nice report it was. You caught some nice fish. I predict 20 more years of BW fishing trips!

Quoting Spartan 1: "This was a very different type of trip. I wasn’t doing the majority of the heavy lifting. Was in the bow, not the stern. Didn’t have to navigate. The emphasis was on fishing, not on scenery or photography."

I couldn't imagine better pictures if photography had been the emphasis! That looked like a fantastic trip and thank you for sharing it.

Great report. I really enjoyed that one. The garbage pit was interesting. Looked like a lot of old beer and bean cans in there. The route you took looks great. I look now and then at where I would like to do my first solo. I believe I just found it. I will refer back to this report in the future for your itinerary.
At first I thought there was a group as you state everyone got together for a meeting where the lists were handed out and such. It soon became apparent that it was only the two of you. Did Ramsey take the other people all on "One on One" trips as well?
Congratulations on the fish. Lot of nice ones there. Too bad you big pike went over the side.

The meeting was for everyone he was guiding all summer. Most of his trips are with groups.
The pike was going to be released after I got the picture, but it didn't want to wait. Most of the fish are released. He has a decal inside the canoe by him that he can measure the fish and if they are small or large they are released.

Really enjoyed your trip report - hope this is the first of many more "fishing" trips to come! Beautiful photos too!

Thanks for the trip report Spartan1. I really enjoyed it. I am glad you had a great time with Ramsey. That was very generous of him to award someone a free trip. I looked on his website and it was a very valuable prize!
I receive mail all the time that states "You are the winner of a brand new car" or an "all expense paid trip to Dollywood" or something similar. I would have questioned the validity of a BWCA trip prize. I am glad it worked out well for you.
I have never been in the bow seat canoeing. It must have been different.
Over the years did you ever think you would try fishing or did you have plenty of other interests like photography on trips.
The garbage dump photos were interesting. I wonder how long the refuse has been there? I found one about the same size behind a campsite on Lake Four earlier this month.
I hope you Spartan2 and your family have many more trips to canoe country.

Nice! Thanks for the report; I enjoyed reading it.

I know someone else who was supposed to trip with Ramsey earlier in August. I won't see him for about six weeks to hear how it went (his first trip). He doesn't really "do" the computer so I have to wait. Anyway, thanks again for the report and pics. That is an area I am eager to see.

Excellent report Neil. The photos are wonderful and Ramsey appears to be a very competent guide. I am sure you enjoyed eating the fish, but how'd you like the fishing and the catching?

Spartan1 I have done the same trip. I have stayed at the campsite on Fairy and recognized the pictographs along the way. I really didn't mind the route from Thursday bay to Gun either. Nice trip report!

Question for you - on the Fairy campsite picture, what is the rope going into the water (or am I seeing it wrong) - is it a canoe anchored or something but the canoe is on land?

Enjoyed the report and the great pictures. Sounds like you were a natural to add fishing! Now, will you take a rod on your next trip with Spartan2? Actually, off to read her report from your trip together, so maybe I'll answer my own question.

If you look in the lower left corner, it is holding up the tarp.

I fished a couple times and caught a little pike.

Great report... although Spartan2 is the better photographer, you aren't to far behind. You caught some nice fish! Sounds like a lot of fun. Did that route two years ago. Never seen the Falls so low as in your pictures. And was that a flying moose hat on Ramsey?

Great report, Neil! It looked like a good trip and I enjoyed following along. As someone who also never has fished on trips, it looks like a great thing to have an expert take you out for a fishing trip.

The pictures are also great. I was blown away by how little water there was at Lower Basswood Falls!

Neil & Lynda,
I love the trip report.
I also had a great time! you are quite the woodsmen and now the fish don't have a chance. I read this trip report a few days ago and reread it this morning because I am starting the October newsletter this morning. I really enjoyed it.

My story will be a little different I will not have the daily itinerary but how the bwca can affect people over the years and strengthen a couples bond as it has yours and Spartan2.

You'll be glad to hear that I ditched the msr filter and finally received the ceramic element for my Katadyn filter and now bring a katadyn gravity filter.(which I love!)

Once again great job!

Neil,
I enjoyed and admired your trip report on a couple of levels. First, all of those years of canoe tripping and no fishing. It certaintly shows that there are many ways to have a fulfilling canoe trip. Secondly, to be willing to give it a try and enjoy yourself to the point of looking forward to more fishing in the future; Kudo's to you.

That was a great assist from "Oldgentleman", and Ramsey sounds like a great guide and teacher. Spartan2 does indeed have a little competition now that we see some of your pictures. You both have a great eye.

Thanks for the great read.
