Thanks for the report - I'll be entering #37 later in the year and have made note of the portage discrepancy. Better luck with the weather on your next solo.

Nicely done! I love the "chop, paddle and slide" phrase; perhaps you should rename your report!

It was also a pleasure meeting you last night. Safe trips this summer, and I hope we again cross paths. If you are ever clearing woods in the Twin Cites area, zip me an email.

Please stop and introduce yourself anytime. I am happy to meet other canoe enthusiasts anytime and particularly want to meet some of the numerous 113 year olds on the board

Good Stuff!!
Our group of 4 had planned on Malberg in FEB via #37 with an entry of 5/11. ON 5/7-- due to the threat of ice,, we pulled a Little Gabbro permit for the same date with the idea that it would lose it's ice quicker. It was gone,, but seems we may have given up too quickly on #37-- but then again it was one day earlier then your pics. thanks for the report. We too had very slow fishing ,, until tuesday 5/14 evening.

Tuesday 5/14 is when I had the bizarre whitefish catch. I probably should have stayed up all night that night fishing but I was feeling befuddled by the weather.

Nice report. Was interested in hearing how a first solo trip went as I am in the process of convincing my wife I will be fine.

Well, what did you do with that one-eyed whitefish? Didja eat him or feel sorry for him and release him (LOL)?

I let him go. Couldn't eat a sucker in the north woods. I have since been admonished that it would have been tasty. It looked like a fine scaled Carp to me.

First solo trips are always the most memorable.

Thanks.

We all have to believe in something. I believe I'll go paddle.
