Entry Point 60 - Duncan Lake

Duncan Lake entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Gunflint Ranger Station near the city of Grand Marais, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 30 miles. Access is from W. Bearskin Lake with a 75-rod portage to Duncan Lake and Stairway Portage. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Awesome report! Glad everyone got their first laker. Pretty photos too. I enjoy taking my young daughters for their boundless energy...it's inspiring! Oh, and I also bring too much gear every time!

Such a beautiful area. Always nice when everyone can get in on the fishing action. Thanks for taking the time to share your story and photos.


My Daughter was bursting with energy too when she 1st visited stairway portage but, soon learned to conserve some of it. :)

Joel, we emailed back in October of 2017 after my first solo trip report! That was when I mentioned the distance between Fergus Falls and the BWCA. I live up by Schmidt's Bridge north of town.
