Entry Point 23 - Mudro Lake

Mudro Lake entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Kawishiwi Ranger Station near the city of Ely, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 19 miles. Three accesses into Mudro Lake involve portages ranging from 20–185 rods.Easiest access is from private la nd with parking fee.

Thank you for sharing the memories of your first BWCA trip. I wish you had shared some photos, too!


Our first trip was very different from yours. There were only two of us, and we went for six days, breaking camp and moving every day. It was a very long time ago, but I always love to read reports of someone’s first trip. I hope you will make many more.

This was a great report--you are skilled writer. While I've done dozens of BWCA trips, last year was my first to Basswood Lake's Pipestone Bay as well. We enjoyed it as you did and thought it was a nice area. Good route choice for your first trip.
