Nice report, thanks for sharing! You guys did some pretty good portages there. Kevlar canoes though it looks?

Yes, quetico 17s I believe.

The accidentally loaded a 16 with a 17 at first, but switched that out when they saw my buddies weren't small guys

Definitely sounds like you threw in some challenges on this trip. Have your buddies forgiven you yet? Thanks for the update on the long portage (we always called it the Baby Grand when I worked at Camp Menogyn) about the water situation. I haven't been there in decades, but my brother is doing the section from Daniels to Rose next week so I will tell him.

My son got really frustrated with the inaccuracies of the McKenzie maps on his trip from Ram to Bower Trout and we have since switched over to Voyager maps thanks to the ease of ordering them through bwca.com

They were not happy with me that day, but are good with me now :)

Where the long portage has its run-in with the other portage and border route I made an arrow on the ground with sticks to make sure my buddies followed the right path. Yeah, it was tough, but being fairly flat made it completely manageable. It's a mind over matter thing

I've gotten different maps depending on our route. I prefer to not have to carry different maps if I don't have to. I bought a True North map that covered this trip, but the cloth aspect just isn't for me as I like to write notes on the maps prior to leaving on the trip identifying priority campsites, difficulty of portages or day hike destinations. I also found their maps a little lacking in some details.
