well said
I have taken each of my 5 kids on this exact route for their first trips (at age 10),
although stopping on Hudson for the night
is a decent option, if the youngins get a bit too tired to go on

The week of June 7 to 14 was our adventure. We put in to lake one about 8:30 with sunshine and light winds. We made our way to insula about 2 pm. We set up camp and headed out in search of some walleyes and it wasn't long and we found one, didn't get another bite for awhile so we decided to head back to camp for a little rest. Later that evening our crew went out again and found the walleyes again, the fishing was great! The best part was the youngest (14 yr old) of our group caught the largest fish 23 inch walleye. As for the rest of the week we had strong winds and rainy cold weather, as we where making our way out the weather cleared and was nice for the last two days. Fishing came to a halt after the May fly hatch but the sunsets and sunrise were awesome. All in all the route was great.

This is a great trip for newbies, and vetrans alike. The ease of the trip is very appealing. With only 6 portages each way most very falt, and shorter than 40 rods this trip is nice for those who don't like long tough portages.
You set off from lake one before 9 if you want to be on Insula at a reasonable time. Lake one is a confusing lake even for the best navigators. There are two short portages of 30 and 40 rods between Lake one and the rest of the popular numbered chain. When you set into Lake two it is much simpler paddleing into lake three. There are no portages until you get to Lake four- Hudson. There will be three short portages between these two lakes however many will be content without going on to hudson, and staying on the numbered chain. Hudson is an easy lake to just beline across to the Insula portage. This 105 rodder with some steep hills at each end will be the toughest portages of the trip. If you have dubble portaged, and started around 7 it should be arround noon - 1:00 as you set into Lake Insula. Lake Insula is a very scenic Lake , it's very Large has great fishing, and is as hard to navigate as lake One. Insu la has over 40 sites to chose from. The northern end and eastern ends provide the best isolation.
Insula is known for it's northerns, and Walleye, the fishing should not dissapoint. Also the best daytrip from lake Insula is to the pictographs on Fishdance lake. You leave the same way you came, back out lake one.
