Was able to do this on one trip with our priest at the time. Bald Eagle perched in a tree by us and did a fly over as we were taking communion.

Great trip report. The most miraculous part to me is how an at least a 10 year old Black Pearl is in such fine shape. I wet foot, but you must walk on water!

Wow, what a report! One of your best ever!

Not BWCA, but in 2018 I had the privilege of experiencing a trip almost exactly like this to Lake of the Woods: A priest, a Deacon and several men--some with their sons along. We fished for a week, shared amazing fellowship and had a wilderness Mass celebrated. Also learned some history as our base-camp was near an old fort from the 1700's. Your report gave me the feels as I then recalled my LOTW trip. Did a video of that trip that you might enjoy:

Congratulations on having had this wonderful experience!

Thank you.

I bet that old fort is the one the Knights of Columbus recently refurbished near the NW angle. Aurora's (my daughter) name is on one of the new legacy logs there.

Great trip report!
I have read most of your reports from this site as well as another canoe site and I rank this as one of the best. I also very much liked where you sew in appropriate bible verses and quotes from Mark Twain and Thoreau. Sounds like a great group of guys that you tripped with. I think it can make a more memorable trip when you have a mix of experience levels (camping / fishing) with your trip mates. Anyway, thanks for sharing.
