Entry Point 16 - Moose/Portage River (North of Echo Trail)

Moose/Portage River (north) entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by La Croix Ranger Station near the city of Ely, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 27 miles. Access is a 160-rod portage heading North from the Echo Trail.

You made good time I'd say! That's the exact route we took my first time to the BWCA.


We're planning on doing the same thing again this year, but in reverse so we're going w/ the current on the river. We're planning on taking 6-7 days with plenty of fishing.

I am considering doing this same trip in the fall, except I want 6 or 7 days for fishing and relaxing.

Being lost in the woods is better than being found in the city.
