nice report! it sounds like the trip was the same. did you and dad start planning #2 on the drive back?

It was a great introductory trip for my dad. I think he got to see much of the BW without having to do a lot of backbreaking work. The double tow really made the trip possible. We never really portaged all our gear. We just portaged when going on day trips.

The weather was perfect. Memorial Day is pretty early and you never know what to expect. We had sunny days with highs in the upper 60’s. Pretty nice for mid May. Also, we didn’t have hardly any bugs. We had about 10 minutes of mosquitoes and only found 3 ticks.

Seagull Outfitters did a nice job. Deb and her crew were very nice, professional, and helpful. Deb runs a tight ship…

The fishing was good. Looking back, we could have had more luck if we fished Alpine harder. We also would have done better for smallies if we had spent more time in warmer back bays.

The fire damage was interesting and I’m very glad that I saw it. The vast expanse of the damge and the degree to which things were burned was amazing. But I don’t know if I would want to camp in the heart of the burn area in the middle of the summer.

Glad you had a great time and made some memories.
The only bad part of the report was thinking about your driving times...and going back to work. I used to do that....not anymore.

Mad Angler - Nice report. Glad that you and your Dad had a good trip. I stayed at the same campsite on Red Rock right after the Cavity Lake Fire. And thanks for leaving a few fish in Alpine ! Izzy

Awesome!!!! I started taking my dad 7 years ago and I wish I would've started the tradition a long time ago. Nothing beats sitting in a canoe fishing with your dad....

Enjoyed reading your report - it reminded me of some later trips with my Dad. Pleased you found some co-operative fish and thankful your camera dried out.

Really liked your trip report! We've used the tow across Sag to Red Rock many, many times and your report brings back fond memories. Spent a good amount of time camping and fishing on Red Rock and Alpine, with Alpine being our favorite. There used to be plenty of wildlife on these lakes - we've seen beaver, pine marten, snakes, turtles, eagles, and one year on Alpine we heard a pack of wolves howling right after sunset. Unfortunately after the Cavity Lake and Ham Lake fires - the area looks very different. It is interesting to see the impact of the fire and how the forest is starting its regrowth. Alpine used to be a popular place during the summer - not sure if that is still true.

Too bad about Jasper being burned. I took my dad on his first trip there some years ago, before it was crispy, and we camped on the north end of Jasper. We had a great trip and it really was a beautiful lake.

Great Trip report. My Son Daniel went about the same route last year. Really liked the area. We are going to Sawbill in August,
Both of my sons and myself. Thanks for the Nice Report!
