Entry Point 52 - Brant Lake

Brant Lake entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Gunflint Ranger Station near the city of Grand Marais, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 45 miles. Access is a canoe landing at Round Lake with an 85- and a 35-rod portage to Brant Lake. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

I would assume you checked out the low portage next to the rapids from Seagull to Alpine. The other (longer) portage would definitely not be underwater, and, as far as portages go, actually isn't too bad and was recommended by our outfitter over the other one. Glad you had a good time.

My first trip to BWCA, in 2016, was similar. Seagull Canoe & Outfitters recommended staying out of the rapids and using the longer portage. It's around 100 rods. It's not easy, but shouldn't break most newbies.
