Thanks for the report! I just took my daughter last weekend on her first BWCA trip, and would love to do a family trip there some day!

Thanks for the report!

We stayed at Rockwood the night after you did and entered the BWCA at Cross Bay Lake on Monday morning, working our way back to Poplar over the next couple of days. When we came through Gaskin on Thursday, we saw the group with the pit bull camped on the eastern Island site. The dog barked at us when we paddled by as if we had no business being on the lake. This did not seem to bother its owners any. We did say "Hi" as we paddled past but I detected no response. I remember thinking at that moment (LONG before I ever read your trip report), "Not my kinda group."

Once we got on Horseshoe we took the site you had just vacated and spent a night there. It appeared to be the last open spot on Horseshoe, so lucky for us you did leave early! We enjoyed the site too, though the fishing was slow and, yes, it was a pretty wet evening with significant rain 'till well after midnight.

P.S. Very nice of you to leave us some firewood!

That is so cool. I love this site. You're welcome for the wood, but I must confess it was not planned that we left it. My wife asked that if it rained all day Thursday (as one of the forecasts from our weather radio predicted) I build a fire, so I kept some wood dry under the tarp. When we decided to leave early, I moved it out of the way.

I couldn't believe how that group with the pit bull had ZERO control over it. I would not come to any of them when called.

Nice report/pics—thanks for posting. Looks like your wife and daughter enjoyed the experience, can't wait to bring my kids up there. Lynn and Mike are awesome people.

I have gone out of RW's my firs two trips and will be doing my third there this year. Going to try to make it down to that Southern most site on Vista, everyone says it's great.

Thanks, cycle003, I enjoyed the story and pictures of your first trip. A couple of years ago, I entered Cross Bay like bottomtothetap and worked my way across Kiskadinna, Omega, and Allen to Horseshoe, where I spent a couple of enjoyable days. It sounds like you enjoyed a very nice first trip.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad to hear people enjoyed the pics and write-up.

I thought the trip would ease my craving for tripping, but it's even worse now. I'm not sure how I can get up there again this year, but I'm trying to figure something. Maybe I can get one more trip in closer to home.

Yeah, boonie, I had read your trip report before going and used your info as part of my planning. It was helpful and enhanced our trip.
