Nice effort to get off the beaten track. Did you only troll when fishing? I always consoul myself when the fishing is bad that all was good without it but I know I'm fooling myself.

Yes, mainly trolling with shad raps and the like. Good point: some shore casting or finding and focus-fishing reefs/ dropoffs may well have yielded different results. Did not carry a depth finder, as do many dedicated fishers.

You mentioned Eastern Iowa airport, are you from CR or Iowa city?
Enjoyed the report very much. I've been in some of that area but not all.

Smaller town of Marengo, west of Iowa City. EI Airport and E. Moline are both handy airports to us (though I seldom fly; I think I've been on more floatplanes than jets).

I am soooo jealous. We were hoping to take that route a couple of years ago. We tried coming in from the north through Travois and ended up leaving our canoe on the trail in. Yours was our second choice route and it sounds like it should have been our first choice. Great job...that is tough country. Thanks for sharing. (Dang...now we are going to have to go back there...)

I always wondered why somebody didn't do something about that. Then I realized I am somebody. Lily Tomlin

I really enjoyed this. Very impressed by the difficulty of the route and you guys handled it well. Something tells me you are very experienced at this sort of thing. I went into Raven and stayed on the rock there. But going to Van and the like just seems too daunting. You guys ain't no spring chickens and you just went and did it. Kudos to that.

I enjoyed the pics too. How's Tom's camera? Are there some he can post on here? I have a canon slr too. Last but not least is your dog. What a great adventure for her/him to be on. I can't wait to take mine.

Too bad about the fishing in the PMA. You'd think it would be the opposite. Well, thanks for posting and hope you guys do another one!

Great report, thanks. It reminds me that there are routes off the beaten path even in the BW. Love the pics with Galli.

We all have to believe in something. I believe I'll go paddle.
