That wind can be a big problem. Glad the trip went well in spite of it and a little rain.

Great report! Thanks for sharing. I was there just after you on a solo trip. I entered and got to Malberg on Tue. the 11th. I stayed at 1040 as it was the only site open beside the 2 really small and bad sites 1055 and 1041. Everything was more spread out than I thought (realized) and I spent an hour trying to find a campsite.

Are you from Costa Rica or traveled there with the Pura Vida ending? Yea sites were hard to come by at times and it is a nice sized lake. How long was the solo trip for? On solos how many portages did you have to do?

Some awesome pictures as usual Pat. We're gonna hit the max of 9 when the kids are all ready to go along.

My brother has lived in Costa Rica for about 13 years... student taught there, offered a job, fell in love, got married, 2 kids, and is now the Principal at the school he student taught at. My parents are retired and winter there and my wife and I have been there 5 times. We have our flights booked for Christmas. It's a beautiful country! Have you been there?

It was a short solo.. 3 nights. First day I left the house at 2am, got to Sawtooth Outfitters at 7am, and pushed off from Kawishiwi Lake landing around 9am. I think was setting up camp on Malberg around 4pm after wandering around trying to find a campsite for an hour. I spent 2 nights there then planned on the 3rd night on Polly but when I got there at 9am and only 1 site was open so I decided to keep going and set up camp for my last night on Kawishiwi Lake before noon.

This was my second solo and I ended up single portaging. I had 1 45 lb pack and rented a 30lb Northstar Northwind Solo. I had a 90lb lab that helped trim the canoe. My first solo was last fall and I double portaged with 2 packs totaling 65lbs and a 40lb Souris River Q16 canoe. The dog was also along on my first solo.

also...... I can't wait to read your trip report for Autumn's first trip :) We took our oldest with us at age 5 and then I did daddy/daughter trips with her at ages 7 and 9. We are planning her trip for next year. My younger daughter just did her 2nd daddy/daughter trip with me in June at age 7. Nothing better than being in the bwca w/ my girls :)
